What this area is

East Gearen City is one of the largest cities in the Aevium region. Newcomers often come to the city to receive a starter at Gearen Laboratory. The city is home to the Poison-type gym leader, Venam. Despite sharing a name, East Gearen City is a separate city from West Gearen City. East Gearen City itself is split into two different sides and branches into multiple routes out of the city. It often rains in the city. Inside of East Gearen City, the player can find three passageways to access different Gearen Alleyway zones. A last, secret, Gearen Alleyway zone can be accessed through East Gearen Gym. From East Gearen City, the player can access Route 1 through a train in the northwest, Route 2 through a train in the east, Gearen Park to the southeast, Oceana Pier to the southwest, and Junction Bridge to the west, as well as Sheridan Village, Goldenleaf Town, Akuwa Town, and West Gearen City via the Truck Guy. The city undergoes a restoration after the player heads to Grand Dream City, turning into Neo East Gearen City.

What is here

It is one of the largest cities in Aevium, split into two sides and branching into more routes than anywhere else early on: Route 1 by train to the north-west, Route 2 by train to the east, Gearen Park to the south-east, Oceana Pier to the south-west and Junction Bridge to the west, plus the Truck Guy to Sheridan Village, Goldenleaf Town, Akuwa Town and West Gearen City. It also rains here often, which matters for field effects.

The city has a lifespan. After you head to Grand Dream City it undergoes restoration and becomes Neo East Gearen City — which is why the shops here and there overlap but do not match.

Venam's gym is on the eastern side, and beating her gives the Poison Heart Badge, TM102 and the ability to use a field move outside battle. It is the first badge, and it is what unlocks a set of things across the city.

The Magnolia Library in the north-west is worth a visit for a reason that is not obvious from outside: its shelves carry the information about Shadow Pokemon, their purification method and their ban from use in the Pokemon League. It is also where you first meet Zumi.

Three of the city's four alleyway passages start here, and the fourth — Venam's Graveyard — is behind the gym's secret exit. Gearen Laboratory is in the south-west, and it is where the game hands you a starter.

This page is also one of the two largest on the site: 70 recorded items, 47 trainer rows and a 30-row encounter table running from level 2 upward, with Pokeball Boutique, Berry Emporium, Petal Salon and several street vendors.
