Compare the two games →Which of these pages you actually need
Five pages is not five steps for everybody. Find the device you will actually play on and the list shrinks to two or three.
| How you will play | Pages you need | Safe to skip | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows PC, first install | Download, Version | Android, Mods, Comparison | Windows is the standard build — extract and run, with no installer. Read the version page once so you know which release every other guide is assuming. |
| macOS | Download, Version | Android, Mods, Comparison | There is an official native Mac build. No emulator and no Wine workaround is involved, so the desktop instructions apply almost unchanged. |
| Linux, Steam Deck or ChromeOS Flex | Download, Version | Android, Comparison | One native Linux build covers all three. ChromeOS Flex reaches it through the Linux container; Steam Deck is routed through EmuDeck. Both are on the download page. |
| Android phone or tablet | Download, Android | Mods, Comparison | Two of the five official builds are Android builds, so the choice of Kirin or JoiPlay is made on the download page and then set up step by step on the Android page. |
| iPhone or iPad | Download, Android | Mods | There is no official iOS build. Streaming the PC build is the only route, and that is documented on the Android page alongside Steam Link. |
| Already playing on v13.5 | Version, Download | Android | Updating is not the same job as installing. The version page covers the update path and what actually differs between v13.5 and V14; the download page covers the mechanics of replacing the build. If your save has been sitting since a specific 14.0.x build, check the patch history first — several fixes only apply retroactively. |
| Coming back after a break | Changelog, Version | Android, Mods | The patch history is the only page that says what broke and when. Four patches in the line repaired damage already done — a completion flag, two unobtainable items and a key — so knowing which build you stopped on tells you whether you need to load and re-save. |
| Still deciding whether to start | Reborn vs Rejuvenation | All five setup pages | Every other page here assumes you have already committed. The comparison page is the only one that answers whether you should. |
Setup order, and what each step buys you
The order matters more than it looks. Two of these steps are about not losing work rather than making progress.
| Step | Page | You are finished when | Skipping it costs you |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Install and launch | Download | The game reaches its title screen | Nothing — you cannot skip this one. |
| 2. Make it behave on your device | Android (mobile only) | Backgrounds render and battles load | Roughly half of the map backgrounds stay black, and battles load slower than they need to. |
| 3. Confirm your release | Version | You know your version and its patch number | Guides written against a different release read as simply wrong, with no warning that they are. If your build is below 14.0.24, the changelog says what you are missing. |
| 4. Back up your save | Save & choices | You have a copy outside the game folder | An update or a mod that goes wrong takes the run with it. This is the step people skip. |
| 5. Adapt the game | Mods (optional) | The game still launches with the mod loaded | Nothing, until a mod targets a build you are not on — which is why step 4 comes first. |
When something goes wrong in the first hour
Most first-session failures are one of six known causes, and five of them have a documented fix. This table sends you straight to it instead of to a search engine.
| Symptom | Go to | It is usually |
|---|---|---|
| Game will not open on Windows | Download | The antivirus quarantined part of the extracted folder. Add the game folder to its exclusions and extract again. |
| Black or blank backgrounds on Android | Android | The maps were never converted. MapConverter runs once inside the game folder and fixes the majority of missing backgrounds. |
| Crashes immediately on mobile | Android | Either the RPG Maker XP plugin is missing, or the Windows build was downloaded by mistake instead of the mobile one. |
| Wild battles load slowly on a phone | Android | Nothing. Slower battle loading is normal on the mobile runtimes and there is no fix to apply. |
| Controller is not detected | Download, Comparison | Depends on the device: handheld routing is on the download page, the general controller question is answered on the comparison page. |
| A mod broke a working install | Mods | The mod targets a different build. Restore your backup first, then check the mod's target release before retrying. |
What this hub does not do
This page exists to route you, not to answer the setup questions itself. Every instruction — build names, download links, mirror advice, requirements, install steps and fixes — lives on the page that owns it, so there is exactly one version of each answer to keep correct. If a detail here ever disagrees with a step page, the step page is the one that was verified against the current release.
About this hub
What order should I work through these pages?
Top to bottom. The cards above are already in the order most players need them: get the game running, then adapt it, then check the version you are on. Nothing later in the list depends on the comparison page, so you can stop whenever you are set up.
Do I need to read all five?
No. If the game runs on your machine and you are not planning to modify it, the platform and modding pages are optional. The version page is worth a look once, because patch notes change what the others describe.
How current are these pages?
Each page carries its own "last verified" date. The game moves between releases — V14 is current — so anything describing a specific version is labelled as such rather than stated as a permanent fact.
