What this area is
Zone Zero, once known as Hiyoshi City, was once the thriving capital city of Aevium. It was divided into a northern and southern section, with both of them equally large, this lead to Hiyoshi City being one of the biggest cities in Aevium. Currently it is an abandoned ghost town, after being destroyed in a clash between Vitus and Nymiera, which has also lead to the petrification of its citizens and the collapse of the city's buildings. Huge chunks of land also have been ripped out presumably by Storm-9. Due to this both sections of the settlement have become an intricate maze. Said maze goes through exposed buildings, and even dives underground, mainly due to the old roads having been blocked by debris. Besides this surrounding land itself has suffered from severe desertification, with the area going from a thriving coastal settlement facing an ocean, to a dry inhospitable ruin.
What is here
The history is the place. Zone Zero was Hiyoshi City, the thriving capital of Aevium, divided into two equally large northern and southern sections that together made it one of the biggest cities in the region. It was destroyed in a clash between Vitus and Nymiera, which also petrified its citizens and collapsed its buildings, and huge chunks of land were torn out — presumably by Storm-9.
What is left is a maze rather than a ruin. Both halves of the settlement have become an intricate network that runs through exposed buildings and dives underground, mostly because the old roads are blocked by debris. Navigating it is the content.
The surrounding land has suffered too: the area went from a thriving coastal settlement facing an ocean to a dry, inhospitable ruin through severe desertification. The Zone Zero Outskirts, which connect to Alamissa Urben, were once part of the lush Route 5 of past Aevium — a detail that ties the ruin to the past-version maps used elsewhere in the game.
It connects north to the Pyramid Grounds, south to Alamissa Urben and west to Reldin Island, and it reaches Nastasia's Airship and the Underground Sanctuary. Rock Smash and Strength are needed, with the Golden Hammer and Golden Gauntlet as substitutes.
The encounters are strange, because the level range is not a band: Helioptile is recorded from level 35 to level 79 across all three slots at 32%, and Maractus from 65 to 79 at 25%. Only eleven rows are recorded, but they span most of the game's level curve.
Two grunts sell here — a Male Grunt with Blast Powder at 2,500 and a Female Grunt with a small general stock — and there are 39 recorded pickups across the abandoned apartments and their depths.
| Landmark | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Zone Zero Outskirts | A small area connecting to Alamissa Urben. Now barren, it was once part of past Aevium's Route 5. |
| Abandoned Apartments and Apartment Depths | The two named areas of the ruin, and where the maze runs. |
| Nastasia's Airship | Reached from Zone Zero. |
| Underground Sanctuary | Also reached from Zone Zero. |
| Pyramid Grounds and Reldin Island | North and west respectively. |
| Male Grunt's stock | Blast Powder at 2,500. |
| Female Grunt's stock | A small general stock including Poke Balls at 200 and Great Balls at 600. |
Before you go
- Treat the ruin as a maze, not a map. The roads are buried, so the route runs through buildings and underground — expecting a straight line between two points is what makes it frustrating.
- Read the encounter levels before planning a fight. Helioptile is recorded from level 35 to 79, so the number in the table is a range across the whole ruin rather than a fixed band.
- The two grunt vendors are easy to walk past and are the only shops here. Blast Powder at 2,500 from the Male Grunt is the notable one.
- Rock Smash and Strength are both needed, with the Golden Hammer and Golden Gauntlet as the substitutes — either pair works.
